Frequently asked questions

What does the name Zertally mean?

Zertally combines “Zero” and “Tally”: zero is the goal of every settlement – in the end, all balances are at zero. A tally is the list where all expenses are recorded.

Does Zertally cost anything?

Every feature is free – from receipt photos to PDF and Excel reports. Zertally is funded by advertising, not subscriptions.

Does everyone need an account?

Only people who want to enter something themselves. You can add fellow travelers without accounts by name.

Do I need an app?

No. Zertally runs in your browser. On your phone, you can add it to your home screen to use it like an app.

Can I split by days or people?

Yes. Choose "By shares" and enter days or heads per person – Zertally works out the exact share.

What is the group kitty?

A shared cash pot. Everyone pays in, expenses are paid from it, and whatever is left is shared fairly at the end.

Can two people pay one bill?

Yes. Tap "Several payers" and enter who paid how much.

How do I remind someone to pay?

In the settlement, the "WhatsApp reminder" button opens a ready-made message with the amount and payment details.

Can I see who changed something?

Yes. The history shows who added, changed or deleted an expense and when.

How accurate is the receipt scanner?

It reads printed receipts very reliably. You can review all items before saving.

How do I delete my account?

Sign in, tap “My account” at the top and then “Delete account”. After a confirmation question, your account, your IBAN and your PayPal name are permanently deleted. Your entries in groups remain for the others so their balances stay correct.
